Level 3 - First Aid at Work Course 2017

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces, including those with five or fewer employees, and to the self-employed.

Over a 3 day period, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, including: assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, heart attacks, choking, head and spinal injuries, fractures, anaphylaxis and more. Who needs this qualification?

How much first aid provision an employer has to make depends on the circumstances of each workplace.

Why is this training important?

This qualification will enable employers to satisfy the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 regulations that apply to all workplaces, including those with five or fewer employees, and to the self-employed.

Learning outcomes

The learner will understand the roles and responsibilites of a first aider to be able to:

  • Assess an incident
  • Manage an unresponsive casualty who is both breathing/not breathing normally
  • Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
  • Manage a casualty with external bleeding
  • Manage a casualty who is in shock
  • Manage a casualty with a minor injury
  • Conduct a secondary survey


Duration Three day programme (The course also qualifies for up to 7 hours of Driver CPC if required).
Assessment Practical assessment plus activities and exam.
