Getting Started

Important Information: Due to the recent changes if you currently hold a C1 or C1 + E licence before 10th September 2009 you have the acquired rights and will not be required to take the initial qualification.

The STEPS to take ..............

STEP 1

Have a medical to prove you are physically fit to drive a Large Goods Vehicle using Form D4.

STEP 2

Obtain your provisional licence using form D2.  Tick the cat C not C1 ( 7.5 tonne )

A good idea might be to also tick the D provisional as this will save you from having extra medicals in the future should you wish to pursue a PCV licence.

Having completed forms D2 & D4 send with your licence to the DVLA in the enclosed envelope.  I recommended that you send it record / registered delivery and photocopy your licence, the paper part and both sides of the photocard, as well as getting the copies signed by a responsible person such as a police person, teacher, doctor etc before sending.  Your licence with provisional entitlement will normally be returned within 2 to 4 weeks.

STEP 3

Book your INITIAL DRIVER CPC Training.

These modules are not for C + E upgrades.

•Modules 1a, 1b & 3 are for obtaining the LGV licence.
•Modules 2 & 4 are for obtaining the right to drive LGVs commercially
•Modules 1a, 1b & 2 are taken at a DSA theory test centre
•Modules 3 & 4 are taken at a DSA LGV practical test centre.

You must also be over 18 years old and hold a full car licence and have passed a HGV Medical and theory test.  We can help arrange your HGV theory tests.

•Over the 5 days of the course to which is broken down into 4 hour segments each day you’ll be trained to LGV test standards to which can be tailored to suite you.
•The course is One on One so that all attention is focused on one person rather than two people.
•During the course you’ll be driving an 18 Tonne Scania
•At the end of your training you’ll have a DSA Test.  (Saturday DSA Test incur an extra charge)

INITIAL DRIVER CPC

This is made up of 4 modules and includes the previous theory and practical tests.  All 4 modules must be passed before being allowed to drive LGVs commercially.
